In the words of Elizabeth (via text during the show last night) "The SYTYCD fix is in." I completely agree, and while the producers always try to control the outcome, it somehow seems more apparent this year. Here are just a few things that stood out to me during last night's top twenty show:
- All three ballroom dancers were given a ballroom routine the first week.
- People we've barely seen get partnered together (Janaya/Brandon, Amber/Nick). Makes it all the easier to get rid of them.
- Cyrus gets partnered with the best female dancer to help make him look good. (he's a one trick pony...)
- Give the two dancers who aren't going anywhere (Cyrus and Eliana) the crappy broadway routine and pretend like it's the best thing you've ever seen.
- According to online chatter, Cole has much more ballroom training than he let on. I'm ok with that - but don't like the producer manipulation that he's basically just a martial arts guy.
Random Thoughts:
- First Travis routine that I've really liked in a long time. HOWEVER, seems like a ton of the choreo was lifted straight from Mia's bench routine. Travis really needs to win an Emmy so that his reality show on Oxygen can film all of that drama - what a better way than to lift choreo from a dance that already won?
- Eliana has a huge mouth.
- Does Tyce have to make everything all about him? Sit down.
- I love Daniel and Cole equally - Daniel because he's Australian and talented, Cole because he's talented and friends with Mark Kanemura (my love for Mark knows no bounds.)
- Why did I laugh every time Cat had to read the phone numbers? Could they not get a combination of numbers that spelled anything even remotely dance related?
- The Alexa and Daniel routine made me long to watch the video for Cold Hearted Snake. (oh Paula Abdul...remember when she was sober and so great...)
- Nick (ballroom boy) looks so much like a Jonas brother I can't concentrate.
- It's a shame that the best SYTYCD hip-hop choreographer is currently in jail. SYTYCD really needs to find someone who can bring back strong hip hop.
- Both Amelia and Alexa look much better when someone else does their makeup.
Predictions for next week: Janaya, Amber, and Tiffany are the bottom three girls. Brandon, Chehon, and Dariean are bottom three guys.
