It's no surprise that I love TV and awards shows. So, when the time of year comes around when there is an award show for TV - I'm there. If I get to eat ice cream during the awards show (which I will be doing....thanks Mom!...it's almost better than Christmas....almost....)
I figured I'd take a shot at some Emmy predictions in light of the ceremony taking place on Sunday evening - so here goes!
Outstanding Drama Series
Boardwalk Empire
Dexter
Friday Night Lights
Game of Thrones
The Good Wife
Mad Men
My head is saying Mad Men, my heart is saying Friday Night Lights, and some other random body part is saying Game of Thrones. Having spent the better part of the last month catching up on Mad Men (thanks Netflix!) I am kicking myself for not watching this show much, much sooner. I watched the first season of Game of Thrones in about three days - staying up way too late and now waiting with baited breath for season two. But...I spent years of my life with Friday Night Lights and loved each and every second (yep, even the ones with Landry and the "murder"...) FNL deserves the win, I just don't think it will take the top prize.
Will Win: Mad Men
Should Win: Friday Night Lights
Drama Actor
Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire
Kyle Chandler, Friday Night Lights
Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Hugh Laurie, House
Timothy Olyphant, Justified
Having only watched two of the five nominated shows, I don't have much to go on in this category. Jon Hamm is brilliant on Mad Men, and having seen him in other shows and movies, it amazes me that he just IS Don Draper. There are times when I'm watching Mad Men that I forget that I'm watching a scripted show and think I'm watching a documentary - if that doesn't say something about his acting, I'm not sure what would. Honorable mention to Kyle Chandler who will forever be my favorite football coach.
Will Win: Jon Hamm
Should Win: Jon Hamm
Drama Actress:
Kathy Bates, Harry's Law
Connie Britton, Friday Night Lights
Mireille Enos, The Killing
Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: SVU
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Tami Taylor for the win! I adore Connie Britton but from everything I've read, it sounds like the trophy is Julianna Margulies' to lose.
Will Win: Julianna Margulies
Should Win: Connie Britton or Elizabeth Moss
Supporting Actor, Drama
Andre Braugher, Men of a Certain Age
Josh Charles, The Good Wife
Alan Cumming, The Good Wife
Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
Walton Goggins, Justified
John Slattery, Mad Men
When an actor can make an arrogant, disgusting character charming and likable, I have to assume that they have mastered their craft - Peter Dinklage does just that. If you haven't watched Game of Thrones, you don't know what you're missing.
Will Win: Peter Dinklage
Should Win: Peter Dinklage
Supporting Actress, Drama
Christine Baranski, The Good Wife
Michelle Forbes, The Killing
Christina Hendricks, Mad Men
Kelly Macdonald, Boardwalk Empire
Margo Martindale, Justified
Archie Panjabi, The Good Wife
Having only seen one of the nominated actresses in this category, I'm not sure I can make an educated guess - but that's never stopped me before. I don't think Christina Hendricks has much of a chance, so I'm gonna take a guess based on what I've read and say:
Will Win: Kelly Macdonald
Outstanding Comedy Series
The Big Bang Theory
Glee
Modern Family
The Office
Parks and Recreation
30 Rock
I'm not sure why The Office was even nominated in this category after such a lackluster season. Ditto for 30 Rock which has been steadily going downhill. I think Parks and Recreation is the funniest show on television (with Community being a close second) but I think that Modern Family appeals to a wider audience and will therefore appeal to more Emmy voters and get the win.
Will Win: Modern Family
Should Win: Parks and Recreation
Lead Actor in a Comedy:
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Steve Carell, The Office
Louis C.K., Louie
Johnny Galecki, The Big Bang Theory
Matt LeBlanc, Episodes
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Steve Carell has never won an Emmy, so with this being his final year of eligibility (at least for The Office) I'm gonna guess that the Emmy voters will want to reward him. Sorry Sheldon, maybe next year.
Will Win: Steve Carell
Should Win: Jim Parsons
Lead Actress in a Comedy:
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Laura Linney, The Big C
Melissa McCarthy, Mike & Molly
Martha Plimpton, Raising Hope
Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation
I'm a fan of Martha Plimpton from the early days (Baby...Ruth....) and of course I love Sooki from Gilmore Girls, but I think this one is acclaimed actress Laura Linney's to lose. I'd love to see Amy Poehler sneak in for the the win but I don't think it's likely.
Will Win: Laura Linney
Should Win: Amy Poehler
Supporting Actor, Comedy
Ty Burrell, Modern Family
Chris Colfer, Glee
Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family
Ed O'Neill, Modern Family
Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family
As much as I'd love to see
Will Win: Eric Stonestreet
Should Win: Ty Burrell
Supporting Actress, Comedy
Julie Bowen, Modern Family
Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock
Jane Lynch, Glee
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family
Betty White, Hot in Cleveland
Kristen Wiig, Saturday Night Live
She's hosting the ceremony this year, so I'm thinking that Emmy voters had Jane Lynch on their brain when casting their votes. Do I think she deserves it, nope, not at all (and don't ask my Mom what she thinks or you'll get lecture #13394.53 on how she doesn't like Jane Lynch.) I'm a fan of Julie Bowen from her days on Ed, and Lost, so I'm hoping that the Emmy voters give her the trophy.
Will Win: Jane Lynch
Should Win: Julie Bowen
Reality-Competition Program
The Amazing Race
American Idol
Dancing With the Stars
Project Runway
So You Think You Can Dance
Top Chef
For years and years this award went to The Amazing Race, then last year, Top Chef took the prize. I'm thinking that this year may belong to American Idol, although I have absolutely zero justification for that thought. Of course, I would love to see my beloved So You Think You Can Dance take the prize, but I don't think that will happen. (sad face...)
Will Win: American Idol
Should Win: So You Think You Can Dance

Thanks Min - Enjoyable thoughts/opinions
I also would love to see both Coach & Tami take home an award and P. Dinklage also.
