Friday Night Lights

After reading Cinderella to a young girl in the movie Sex and The City, Carrie Bradshaw says "you know that this is just a fairytale right sweetheart? Things don't always happen like this in real life. I just think you should know that now."

That line perfectly demonstrates why so many "dramatic" movies and TV shows just aren't my cup of tea. Like most people, I enjoy a good happy ending, but only when it's based on realistic events. The Prince doesn't always fall for the beautiful girl wearing rags, and the couple who breaks up doesn't always end up back together. The TV show Friday Night Lights has figured that out - and that is the reason that I am so glad it's back on the air tomorrow night.

I often forget I'm watching a television show. It feels more documentary like than scripted drama. The characters have real problems... with relationships, with parents, with school, with jobs, with life. I don't want to talk it up too much (I know...too late) but if you aren't already watching (or recording) something on Friday nights (which you aren't) - give this show a chance. And when you're snuggled up on the couch this weekend because it's 2 degrees outside, watch season 1 online...superb television.

As this article says - "Friday Night Lights is one of those shows, one hears, that you gotta see. Really, you just don't know what you're missing."
