Weekend

Thanks to Jen for spending Saturday at the spa with me... Massage, facial, pedicure, and new hair is always a good time! Not that I don't love and adore your kids, but getting to spend 6 hours with my BFF is a luxury and one that I will always appreciate.

Also saw two movies this weekend and had the exact opposite opinion of the films as the people I was with - which is typical for me. I think maybe I should just start going to the movies alone.

Went to see 500 Days of Summer with Stacey and, as always, I loved the movie and she hated it. It never fails to make me laugh that the friend that I have had for 33 years and I couldn't have more opposite taste in movies. Why we continue to go see them together baffles me, but I guess we just hope that maybe someday we'll agree. (side note: we did both like Slumdog Millionaire - so that's one!)

Anyway, without giving away the plot, 500 Days of Summer was a breath of fresh air. It never once fell into the typical Hollywood "boy meets girl - boy strings girl along - boy can't commit - boy and girl live happily ever after." Plain and simple, it was real. It redefined the notion of destiny and reminded me that just because the package doesn't end up tied with a nice pretty bow doesn't mean that you should lose hope.

The second movie I saw this weekend was Julie and Julia with Elizabeth and Sarah (aka Carrie.) They both liked, I was disappointed. Overall I was just bored with the movie. Meryll Streep gave a fabulous performance as Julia Child, but that's the only good thing I can say about it. Everything I disliked would give away too much of the plot, but I desperately wished that I had a remote control in my purse so that I could hit fast forward.

I give 500 Days of Summer an A-, and Julie and Julia a C.

Where's the grade for our spa trip??? I give it an A++. My first attempt at the hair was pretty good. It still requires some magic with the blow dryer to get it to flip under, but I likey;-) Thanks for dragging me out of the house for some non-mom, non-spouse, purely indulgent BFF girly fun!

I've been working my way through the blog that Julie and Julia was based on because I really want to see the movie. The blog is actually pretty entertaining. It sucks that the movie doesn't hold up, though.
