Afternoon Updates!

- American Idol returns tonight with a show that is scheduled to last an hour and 25 minutes. Check your DVRs to make sure you get the whole thing. I can’t decide if I want the original Adam Lambert to show up with his chains and black nail polish, or the new and improved version, aka KD Lang (copyright Elizabeth Finley 2009)

- A new episode of 90210 will air tonight (finally) - - with a new woman now in charge of the series, look for the show to have a different feel and more “edgy” story lines. Not edgy enough for me unless they kill Tori Spelling.

- Very small 90210 spoiler: Dustin Milligan, who plays Ethan on 90210, won't be returning to the show in the fall -- at least not full time.

- Friday Night Lights has officially been renewed for two more 13-episode seasons. The new seasons will play on DirecTV before its network broadcast, a continuation of the deal NBC struck this season to make the production financially viable.

- Scott Porter (previously Jason Street on Friday Night Lights) has joined the cast of Masterwork, a Fox drama pilot about an FBI agent who tracks down stolen antiquities. (Think Indiana Jones with a badge.)

- MTV has ordered four more seasons of “The Real World." The current season of "The Real World: Brooklyn" will air its finale Wednesday, and producers are already shooting the next round, "The Real World: Cancun."

- HBO has announced that True Blood will kick off its second season on Sunday, June 14.
